To Mumbaikars, that question is a no-brainer. To others, Mumbai is the richest city of India - its financial capital. Consider this, roughly 40% taxes (Sales, Excise, Income Tax) for Indian Government come from Mumbai. Most Indian and multinational companies have their head offices in Mumbai.
Thus you find all sorts of people -businessmen, service class people, government servants and politicians for whom Mumbai is the holy grail. Some of the richest (like Ambani brothers) and the poorest (like thousands living in slums) live in Mumbai. People from all over India come here to form various stratas of society looking for just one thing -an opportunity to make it big. These day, you see even the expats from other countries in the streets of Mumbai.
Like everything else, Mumbai too has its own set of positives and negatives. While most of the people here are middle and low income service class, Mumbai is also full of sharks.
