There are lots of factors that make Mumbai stand apart of most of the other Indian metropolitans.
Culture: Dominated by Maharashtra culture, there are certain things that happen only in Mumbai. People, though they stay aloof usually, come together very quickly in emergencies. It is very common to see people forming que’s for buses, auto rickshaws etc. During major festivals like Ganapati festival there are a lot of social interactions.
Respect for women: Eve teasing, molestation is very less as compared to rest of India. Women can travel alone even at 11-12 O clock in night.
Professionalism: This is a city of working people. Because Mumbai has been a hub for trade and commerce for more than 150 years, the professionalism here is very evolved. You would find people coming to their workplaces on time and working seriously with dedication. Absenteeism, non serious working habits are not seen commonly.
Modesty: Most of the people one meets here come across as very modest. The guy next to you in a local train might be a filthy rich businessman or stock broker and you would never get to know (so unlike Delhi).
Association with NGOs/social work: The number of people who are associated with some sort of social work is amazing. If not a pure NGO, they would be part of a Mitra Mandal (Friend Club) and would do something in their street or ward.
Lots of night life: There are great places to enjoy your weekend with the friends without any hassles.
Beautiful Spots around: Mumbai is surrounded by some of the most scenic places where one can go to unwind after a hectic week full of work.
